We recently connected with Shoni Alleyne and have shared our conversation below.
Shoni, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
To be honest Imposter Syndrome is something I am still overcoming. What helps me when I am invited to events or get opportunities I was initially afraid to pursue is to remember one thing: “If I wasn’t meant to be in the room, I wouldn’t be invited.” I try my best to remember that. When I forget, my support system of friends and therapist reminds me that my dream has become my reality and I deserve it. All of us start our story somewhere and it doesn’t need to be perfect, we just need to get started. A person who is trying their best could never be an imposter in my opinion.
